A key strategic concept in randori or any multi-attacker engagement is establishing positional advantage. Never turn your back on an attacker. Never let them regain the initiative. Never be reactive and let the attackers set the pace.
Inherently at a disadvantage in randori (facing multiple attackers), positional advantage is a required to stack the odds in your favor and create a successful outcome. In this video we explore the benefits of proactive movement and positioning and show some techniques to achieve it.
Participants in this small group training sessions are Billy Vincenty and Karen Kim.
Many of these same concepts are covered but at an instructor training level in another video in our library. Looking at the instructor training session, “Randori: Positioning Tactics”, you can see how many of the same concepts are transmitted to practitioners with far more experience. In contrast to this session, the instructor training session is purely focused on knowledge transfer with no technical corrections or practice runs.
